In a standard (non digital) guitar you need to tune the open strings of a guitar  to standard concert pitch. You can start with the 6th (fattest) string and use the notes E-A-D-G-B-E. If you find this difficult to do, then you can try to get a cheap digital tuner and start learning how to use it effectively. You will learn how to get those string perfectly in tune and at the right pitch.

As you practice, you need to learn to tune your guitar by your ear. This will help you tremendously to tune  the guitar as any time and help you to understand the notes and get an ear for music.
